About Charlotte

Charlotte works with porcelain ceramics creating unique wall hangings, plaques and jewellery from her home and workshop in Llanberis. Her work is greatly influenced by the stunning scenery of North Wales, its natural beauty and dramatic landscape. Her work is greatly influenced by the variation and contrast in the change of seasons.

“I spend a great amount of time walking and exploring Eyrir’s varied landscape from the dramatic mountains, ancient woodland, lakes, rivers and breath-taking coastline which I am lucky enough to call my home. This is where I collect many of my materials from the natural landscape to create pressings and textures in my work. I also grow many flowers and plants in my own garden which I collect and press in my work.”

“My process involves each porcelain piece to be hand crafted into a range of shapes and decorated with various plants, leaves, seed, flowers and textures that I have collected. Once dried they are smoothed and placed into the kiln for a bisc firing. Once fired I add colour using underglaze which I paint on and wipe back to reveal the delicate details within the pressings. I also use various glazes to create smooth shiny surfaces to highlight colour, texture and detail. The final stage is a high firing up to 1220c which fuses the glaze and colour to the porcelain and becomes a solid piece that can now be used within my work.

My jewellery is inspired by taking elements from my larger pieces of work to create wearable pieces. Some of my collections have gold, platinum or copper detailing which when fired to a low temperature permanently fixes the metal to the porcelain piece and adds a delicate sparkle to the item being worn”.
